In Japan Spring is the Season to Begin a New Life
In Japan, the school year begins in April and ends in March.
Children used to pass the gate of their school for the first time underneath the cherry blossoms.
Now, due to the climate change, graduation takes place underneath the cherry blossoms.
It is not only the academic year, but also the country's fiscal year that begins in April for many corporations.
This habit began in 1886, about 20 years after the Meiji Restoration.
Spring is a season when nature is reborn, and maybe, in this case, it is suitable to begin a new life.
On the other hand, a long vacation, such as a summer holiday, is a good break for us because it is a necessary pause before starting a new life.
As far as businesses are concerned, being in sync with foreign companies that start their fiscal year in January is a better idea, even though switching would mean making some drastic changes to laws and regulations in Japan.
